In short
For a Pebble Beach golf trip, stay at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, The Inn at Spanish Bay or Casa Palmero if you can: resort guests can book Pebble Beach Golf Links with their room, up to 18 months ahead at The Lodge and the Inn and 12 months ahead at Casa Palmero, while everyone else gets only about 24 hours' notice. Carmel-by-the-Sea and Pacific Grove are about 10 to 15 minutes away, with Monterey and Seaside a little further for better value. Spyglass Hill, Del Monte, Poppy Hills, Pacific Grove and Bayonet and Black Horse all take visitor bookings, and May to September is the driest stretch.

How tee times work
Pebble Beach Golf Links is the hard one: resort guests book tee times with their room, up to 18 months ahead at The Lodge and the Inn or 12 months at Casa Palmero, with a minimum stay. Non-guests can only call about 24 hours before to see what is left. Spyglass Hill opens to everyone 3 months ahead, Spanish Bay and Del Monte 6 months ahead, and resort guests get one round per night of stay on those courses. Outside the resort, Poppy Hills books 90 days ahead, Bayonet and Black Horse 120 days, and Pacific Grove 60 days for groups.
Closures to know about
The Links at Spanish Bay is closed for a Gil Hanse renovation from 2026-03-18 and is set to reopen on 2027-04-17. The U.S. Open is at Pebble Beach Golf Links on 2027-06-14 to 2027-06-20; dates when the course closes to public play around it are not published yet.
A sensible plan
Three or four nights mid week work well. Arrive and play Pebble Beach Golf Links on day one, Spyglass Hill on day two, then Poppy Hills or Spanish Bay (once it reopens) on day three. Finish with a cheap, fun round at Pacific Grove or a test at Bayonet and Black Horse before flying out of Monterey.
Getting there
Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) is about 20 minutes away. San Jose (SJC) is about 90 minutes and San Francisco (SFO) about 2 hours. Day visitors pay a gate fee for 17-Mile Drive; resort guests and Poppy Hills golfers do not.

Pebble Beach golf trip questions
Do I have to stay at the resort to play Pebble Beach?
No, but it is the only reliable way. Resort guests book tee times with their room, up to 18 months ahead at The Lodge and the Inn (12 months at Casa Palmero), with a minimum stay. Non-guests can only try about 24 hours before, and spots for a full group are rare.
How much does it cost to play Pebble Beach Golf Links?
The green fee was reported at 695 USD from April 2026 to March 2027, and non-guests add a cart fee. A caddie is 175 USD plus a suggested tip of at least 100.
Is Spanish Bay open?
Not right now. The Links at Spanish Bay closed on March 18, 2026 for a Gil Hanse renovation and is set to reopen on April 17, 2027. The Inn at Spanish Bay is a separate hotel.
Can I play Pebble Beach during the 2027 U.S. Open?
The U.S. Open is at Pebble Beach Golf Links on June 14 to 20, 2027, and closure dates around it are not published yet. Pacific Grove Golf Links is taking advance bookings for June 14 to 21, 2027, but if Pebble Beach itself is the goal, plan your trip for another month.
What are cheaper courses near Pebble Beach?
Pacific Grove Golf Links is the best value, with 18 holes from 66 USD walking on weekdays. Poppy Hills is 350 USD for the public, well below the Pebble Beach fee, and its twilight rate starts at 120. Del Monte and Bayonet and Black Horse do not publish fixed rates, so check their booking pages.
When is the best time to golf at Pebble Beach?
May to September is the driest stretch, with less than an inch of rain across those months. Highs stay around 58 to 70 F all year, and mornings can be foggy, so pack layers.
